Candlemas:Rescheduled to February 5
Updated: 2 days ago
The Children and Youth make and serve crepes for us after Worship.
Candlemas is a Christian holiday celebrating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. This holiday is based on Luke 2:22-30, where Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to Jerusalem for the purification rites. The Christian church has celebrated Candlemas since the 4th century AD in Jerusalem.
Crepes are a tradition. The rounded shape and golden color of the pancake are reminiscent of the solar disc, which refers to the return of spring after the dark and cold winter. It is also part of the tradition that manger scenes should not be put away until February 2, the last feast of the Christmas cycle.
